FAMILY STORIES

Every family has its favorite stories. You know the ones that are told over and over again at gatherings. You know them by heart but you always laugh at the ending. In some cases you were witness to the actual event but the recreation far exceeds the facts. These stories grow in color and humour as time passes. They do, however, have basic historic truths hidden within the laughter, hyperbole, and tears of the latest iteration. You need to read these anecdotes like you would read scripture, history, or bedtime stories. All these are all founded upon truths we hold dearest to ourselves. As scripture, they read poetically and tell the story of human relationships to a higher order than one's self. As history, they are written on the bias of the story teller. And as bedtime stories, they fantisize to soothe us with the sense of well being and belonging. No matter how they read, these stories connect us like spiritual DNA and define us as kin whether through bloodline, marriage or friendship.
